Head Teacher

It is difficult to describe the role of the headteacher in a school – unless you’re 6 years old of course! We asked a year one class what Mr Jameson does in school and this is what they decided:

'He reads us Jesus stories from the Bible… He does assemblies and he says prayers too… He looks at his books when we’re coming in and then he talks to us and tells us the stories… He tells us wicked stories! When he says prayers he says Amen at the end… He tells us which songs to sing'

When asked what else he does the answers were very interesting!...

'He looks smart in sensible clothes and his shoes are shiny like my Dad’s… He wears a tie cos that’s smart… He’s very clever because when the teachers are doing teacher training he tells them all the new things we can learn… He tells us stuff we didn’t know'

But what does he actually do?

'He works in the office and he writes letters for the children so when we go home we can take them… He eats chocolate in his office cos I saw him!... He is important because he gives out prizes and certificates… He goes to year 6 and tells them what to do because he’s clever and they do the work he says to do'

Anything else?

'He keeps us safe because he knows how to do that.'

'Sometimes he goes to different schools and then brings new children to our school and comes into our class with them'

Why?

'Because we like to meet new people… And when people knock on his window he brings them round to show them what we do'

'He runs the School Council meetings and he is our headteacher'
