Awards and Celebrations

At St George’s Primary School we have a lot to celebrate. Our staff and children work very hard to maintain the positive environment we work in and we like to reward the successes of our pupils regularly. This happens in many ways:

  • All children are enrolled in a 'house' and awarded House Points on a regular basis to encourage team work. Every half term the points are carefully added up and the house point trophy is given out to the winning team (collected by team captains) during celebration assembly and then displayed for all to see. House points are given for any positive contribution in school, ranging from neatly presented work, to demonstrating good manners in school. The children work hard to achieve house points and are very proud when their team wins (as indicated by the loud cheers heard in assembly!)

  • Each week the class teachers choose one child from their class to receive the prestigious 'Ammonite Award'. The teachers monitor the children's attitude, progress, behaviour and helpfulness throughout the week and then select the person they feel has been most successful. These awards are given out each Friday in Celebration Assembly by Mr Jameson, with all staff members present, in front of the whole school - it really is a very important occasion, one which the children look forward to participating in.

  • Once a month the Chair of the Governing Body joins the school in Celebration Assembly to give out the Governors' Award for Achievement. This can be for achievement in any area. Children are nominated by their teachers, and then the Chair of Governors decides which child is given the award – a prize presented in front of the school.

  • St George's Primary School also has a consistent Rewards and Sanctions Policy.
