Miss Thomas also teaches a year 3 class, supported by Mrs Whiles (teaching assistant)and Ms Gordon (lunchtime supervisor). The third class is taught by Mrs Munslow, supported by Mr Prior (teaching assistant) and Miss Bedford (lunchtime supervisor).
Our humanities topic this term is Weather Around the World.
In numeracy we are focusing strongly on 2, 5 and 10 x tables, and in science our topic is scientific enquiry - we will be concentrating on fair testing and the different elements of carrying out investigations. In ICT we will be working hard to develop typing skills and how to organise work into folders on a computer. In Art we are learning about portraying relationships through drawing; in Music we will be listening to and studying Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev. In PE and games we will be practising gymnastics skills and invasion games, and in RE we will be finding out about Bible stories and what they mean to us.
Homework: In line with our school policy all pupils will receive spellings to learn each Monday and will be tested on Friday morning. They will also be tested every week on times tables. Your child should know which times table to learn each week. This term we are focusing on 2, 5 and 10 x tables and have sent a sheet home for support with this. Daily practise reciting these will help immensely. We believe the best way to learn times tables is to say them over and over again in order from 1x to 12x. When this is known, quick fire questions help to consolidate understanding and will help with speed and accuracy in the weekly test.
In addition to this, daily reading at home is essential - please record the pages and any comments in your child's reading diary.
There will also be occasional topic work which we would love you to help your child with. For this we leave it to your imagination and creativity!
Please ensure that your child has a full (and named!) PE kit in school at all times. PE will take place on Wednesday and games on Thursday.
Any parents wishing to support our pupils with extra reading please see the year 3 teachers. You will need to complete a CRB check - the teacher will organise this. All help gratefully received and we assure you, you will find it very rewarding!
We will soon be adding a few photos to give you a taster of what we have been doing in year 3.
